Around The Mountain Cycle Challenge set to grow
“Over the last year we’ve been in really constructive talks with the Taranaki Velodrome Trust with the aim of seeing a more unified approach to cycling events in the province. This approach will attract more riders to the region and the sport,” says the event manager Selwyn Brown of Events Taranaki.
The results of those discussions are that the Egmont Seafood’s Around The Mountain Cycle Ride and the Taranaki Cycle Challenge will combine into one big event on the last Saturday of January.
“By combining the events we can grow beyond the two individual events, and importantly will be able to make a more meaningful contribution not only to the Taranaki Velodrome Trust but also to the other charities that the race benefits,” says Selwyn.
“Combining the two events is the first step in growing the ride to a much larger scale and to a much wider audience.”
He predicts a significant increase in numbers will participate in the next event on 25 January 2014, which will also introduce a progressive relay called ‘The ECL Accumulator’ and a high school relay. Long term the around the mountain ride has the potential to be as big as the Taupo around the lake ride.
As usual there will be a huge cache of spot prizes up for grabs, including two trips for two to Bali courtesy of Singapore Airlines and Boutique Mondo Travel, road and mountain bikes, a Honda scooter, and much more.
Events Taranaki has the support of more than 200 volunteers and helpers to stage this amazing event.
